Abounding Rivers STRTP will assist youth with working towards the idea of
change to increase self-confidence and cultivate a lifetime pattern of self-improvement.
The program will help youth understand the relationship between values, attitudes, and
behaviors as they relate to the decision-making process and will help the youth discover
how attitude affects behavior and the tools to gain better self-control. The primary
objective of the STRTP is to provide trauma-informed care principles and positive
prosocial coping skills to residents to promote positive interventions, promote emotional
regulation, and coping skills.
Abounding Rivers provides residential training, care, and supervision to
youth who have been or are subjects of abuse, neglect, or are at substantial risk of
suffering severe physical harm inflicted non-accidentally upon the child by the child’s
parent or guardian. Furthermore, Abounding Rivers offers
practice models and interventions trauma-specific treatment to survivors of
commercially sexually exploited children (CSEC). CSEC survivors typically have
experienced complex emotional, physical, and sexual trauma requiring specific
treatment interventions. Survivors may experience emotional, behavioral, and mental
health symptoms that are often unidentified or misdiagnosed. Without proper support
and treatment, the risk of being re-victimized is high. Youth placed in the care of Abounding Rivers will
receive treatment and support to address safety, gain an understanding of the
victimization they have experienced, improve self-esteem, develop motivation for
change, improve life skills, and empower them to reach future goals. The goal of Abounding Rivers is
to remove the stigma associated with working with CSEC identified youth and promote
an environment that fosters healing, advocacy, and resiliency.
